This project was a complete renovation of the auditorium at Winslow Township High School. This included the replacement, and upgrade of all theatrical systems, including audio, video, lighting, and rigging.

Starlite was hired by the electrical contractor (DEC Electric) to provide all the equipment and labor to complete the installation of each of these systems. The total cost of the theatrical portion of this project was close to $750,000.

This project required careful coordination with many allied trades over many months to ensure that construction was done efficiently and without conflict.

Though there were a few delays in construction (when is there not?), the contractors were able to turn over a newly renovated, fully functional theater to the school on time. The school’s theatrical team, as well as administrators were very impressed.

The rigging system included (4) Thern clew winches that allow a user to raise or lower the on stage pipe battens containing lights. This is helpful for the theatrical team to change, move, clean, adjust, etc. fixtures without use of ladders or lifts. At the FOH location, we installed a ETC 1500 Prodigy Hoist system, which allows the same convenience of the winches, with just the push of a button to trigger the electric motor.

The A/V system was highlighted by the left and right line array speakers, as well as two subwoofers that were flown above the front of the stage. The arrays were comprised of 5 Community !V6 12″ modular speakers each. Feeding these speakers were QSC CXD power amplifiers. The audio processing was done by Q-SYS Core, also by QSC. For live performances, the use of the Allen and Heath SQ 7 mixing console was integrated.

Crestron is being used for control systems. The system is designed to function in two modes: “Easy Mode”, which gives the user control through one of the two 10″ touch panels located in the back of the room, as well as on stage. This mode would be helpful for a lecture, or quick slide-show display for more of a educational setting. The other mode is “Advanced Mode”, which is typically used to live performances and is controlled through the use of the lighting and audio consoles. This allows for a more customizable setup.

The theatrical lighting fixtures were entirely furnished by ETC, all of the Color Source family. These included 20 spots, 30 pars, and 8 cycs.

Lighting is being controlled by Interactive Technologies Cue Server 2 Pro. For live performances, the user has the ability to control the lighting through the ETC Ion xe console.

Both audio and lighting consoles are neatly house in beautiful teak bodied, stainless steel roll top desks, made by HSA.

The prestigious Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA had big plans for their outdated gymnasium space. With a tight deadline and a $500,000 budget, they called on Starlite to help transform the gym into a multi-purpose performance and event venue. Starlite’s directive was to design a versatile space with the flexibility to host a wide array of events such as musicals, concerts, lectures, and theater performances. With only a two-month deadline, Starlite’s Integration Department quickly mobilized its team and got down to business with the construction team.

The space was upgraded with a state-of-the-art video and projection systems, including an NEC 8,000 lumen laser projector, a Draper Paragon 132″ x 211″ screen and Crestron distribution and control.

The client also wanted attendees in the lobby of the Simpson Center and in their Skye Room to be able to view performances as they were happening live. To do that, Starlite installed two 65″ Sony Bravia screens in the lobby area, a Sony BRC-z700 camera to be used with the Vaddio Quick-Connect CCU, ProductionVIEW controllers and an AV Bridge as well as a NEC preview monitor.

Prior to this upgrade, the school had previously held small-scale productions in various hallways or open-spaces throughout the school. Now the new space boasts a 45′ x 45′ pipe grid from which to hang lights, scenery and drapery, sound reinforcement, distributed audio/video, video projection, acoustical curtains and track systems, performance space house lighting, and theatrical lighting.

Audio components of the new space consisted of Soundcraft’s Si Performer 2, Mini Stagebox 32, Compact Stagebox and for DSP the BSS BLU-806. The speaker and amplification were a combination of JBL speakers, subwoofers and distributed speakers paired with Crown DCi amplifiers for enhanced performance sound quality.

Lastly, the crew installed ADC curtain tracks with Curtains, Cyclorama and Scrim. Then they gave the performance space the ultimate upgrade with ETC lighting and dimming system which included (30) ETC Source Four LED Series 2 Lustr and (20) ETC Selador Desire D40 Lustr+ fixtures.

Atlantic City’s Tropicana Casino and Resort needed a complete solution after management decided to covert a section of its casino into the retro ‘70s- and ‘80s-themed dance club, Boogie Nights. The venue comprised a long space just off the casino floor with three sections, including a dance floor area, a bar, and a lounge, as well as a VIP area and a balcony area that performers and dancers access.

Starlite was approached to design and install the venue’s entire audio, video, control, and lighting system to help boost Boogie Nights as a premier night club featuring unprecedented sound, intelligent lighting, fog and bubble machines, video projectors, and the biggest disco ball on the Atlantic City strip.

“Starlite did a fantastic job with the entire project, especially since the installation experience was very challenging,” said David Peña, Owner of Boogie Nights. “Since the club is a transformation of a huge open space, it was a difficult room to fill evenly with audio. The sound system is incredible! Customers constantly comment on how impressed they are and how clean it sounds. The lounge area has great energy while allowing patrons to still have a conversation due to the ability to direct sound. The loudspeakers most definitely complete the Boogie Nights experience. Some of our other clubs have JBL and we have always had great experiences with their products. JBL is a name I feel comfortable with and I know their speakers are dance quality.”
